Bear Lake Marathon

This is marathon two in the 5 star quest.

The Marathon course will begin on the east side of the lake. This is one of the most scenic parts of the lake where it has beautiful beaches, fields and mountains. There is little traffic on this side and extends for almost 16 miles. The last portion of the course will continue around Laketown, Rendezvous Beach and Ideal Beach Resort. Ideal Beach Resort is where you will enter on the paved bike trail that will take you to the finish line at the Garden City Park.

This marathon was specifically designed for the 50 State club marathoners that have requested to run in two different states, during the same weekend, while they are staying in the Bear Lake area. Bear Lake sits on the state line between Utah and Idaho. The road around the lake is just over 50 miles. Marathoner’s that participate in both marathons, will be able to boast about running around the entire Bear Lake in one weekend.
Bear Lake Idaho Marathon will have an "early start" on Friday, June 8, at 4:00a.m.
This course will actually start in Garden City Park in Utah. The race will finish at the Idaho State Park on the East side of the Lake.  The hills at the end but that eliminates the busiest section of the road in the early morning before the traffic picks up. Both parks are along the main road that wraps around the Bear Lake.
Aid stations throughout the course: Water, Gatorade, energy gel, and fruit.
Multiple restrooms are located at the start and finish lines. There are also restrooms available throughout the course.
Finishing medals and running shirts will be provided to all runners.
Official times will be posted on the web site shortly after the race.
There will not be any busing for this race, but there will be transportation available after the race for those needing transportation back to the Garden City Park.

Festive Christmas Light Run

What a fun evening this was, running with the Utah Marathon Maniacs to look at Christmas lights. The run started and ended at Teresa and Bob's home. Everyone ran at their own pace, Bob stayed back with the slower group so that we could stay on the right route. The best lights were around Teresa's neighborhood. It was pretty cool out, but the thoughts of hot chili after kept us running.
After we got back I had to change my shirt, I was soaked after running in my bike jacket and Christmas hat. My hair looked like I took a shower. I just can't run without the heat escaping out my head.
The food looked and tasted delicious. Teresa had her home and the tables decorated really beautiful. The turkey chili was delicious, so was the salad and bread. Well it was all good.
Stats for the run: 4.46 miles, 58:55 minutes.

Marathon Maniac ? ? ? ? ?

Time for a serious discussion on being a Marathon Maniac. Do I really want to be one? Maybe I should restate that. Do WE want to be one Cyndie? Is that on your bucket list? Is it on mine? Sigh. It is a lot of running. Lately it jumps on the list (St. George lottery) then it jumps off after a half marathon run. We go hot and then cold. I know that sweet bike is Cyndie's problem. It is so much easier on the body and knees and really, really fun. We can work up to 100 miles!!
So back to the M A R A T H O N. Let's head right to the source to help with the decision. The Marathon Maniac page on the web:
1st Question: Are you addicted to running marathons? Well, no. But we have a friend who is, her name is Liz. (Rhymes)
2nd Question: Do your thoughts switch to the next scheduled race immediately after finishing a marathon? Well, no. They go to when is my next bike ride.
3rd Question: Do you know specifics about many of the marathons? Well, no. Is that important?
4th Question: Do you know the story of how the marathon got started? Also, why the course is 26.2 miles? Well, yes I do.
5th Question: Do you read books on marathons like Marathon And Beyond? Well, yes.
6th Question: Is www.marathonguide.com bookmarked on your computer? Well, it is now.
7th Question: Do you look at the race schedule more than once a week? Well, yes and no. I look for any race that looks fun.
8th Question: Do you start to feel down when you haven't run a marathon in a while? Well, no. I feel pretty happy that there isn't one looming close on the horizon.
9th Question: Are your closets and dressers filled with marathon t-shirts? Well, one, but there are lots of other race t-shirts.
10th Question: Do you have so many marathon medals that you've run out of room on the hook that they hang from? Well, lol, I only have one but there are a few other race medals with it.
11th Question: When asked about racing from your non running people, do you find yourself talking with great passion to the point that the person that asked the question regrets ever asking? Well, maybe.
12th Question: Have you run marathons on back to back weekends? Well, heck NO! Or better yet back to back days????? Well, is planning on the Goofy going to count against me?
13th Question: Have you run a marathon as a training run? Well, no. Or just to pace a friend? Well, no but I can see that maybe coming.
14th Question: When asked by loved ones what your plans are for the weekend, you feel guilty telling them your running another marathon so you tell them "it's only a half this weekend."? Well, no, but I do have a lot of those "halfs" planned.
15th Question: Do you plan all your vacations around a marathon race? Well, no but it's getting close to planning them around "races" in general. LOL
So the bottom line according to the Marathon Maniac website:
If you answered "YES" to Any of these questions, you just may be a Marathon Maniac!!!
So you noticed, there are some YES answers. Is that enough to commit to this? Or be committed? lol.
Why NOT?
Can you think of any other reasons Cyndie? ha ha
1. time
2. money
3. wear & tear on body

The difficult thing about doing this is that we have to decide and sign up early. It has to be planned out so that we make the criteria for the basic membership. So, for the Bronze forever level we have:
2 marathons within a 16 day time frame
3 marathons within a 90 day time frame

2 is cheaper than 3, but I was thinking that could take all the FUN right out of it. I had contemplated that before with Ogden but decided against it - I was afraid of making myself not like running.

I think I will post this and then work on race lists if I get a positive  response. I am not ready to go it alone.

LIZ - Marathon Maniac

Since I am relatively new to sport of running there are lots of new acronyms and some running lingo to learn so I can understand "runner language." One of the new words is Marathon Maniac. To explain what this is I will tell you about my friend Liz who is going to run with me in the Ogden Marathon.
Liz belongs to a group of runners known as Marathon Maniacs (MM). In order to join a runner has to "qualify." Similar to when I blogged about  how I would soon "qualify" for the Half Fanatics. There are several "levels" of craziness (my word). They start at Bronze (1 Star) then move to Silver (2 Stars), Gold (3 Stars), Iridium, Ruthenium, Osium, Palladium, Platinum, etc.
To start off the year, with what Liz is signed up for she will have completed the criteria needed by a new runner to be able to join at the Bronze Level with 3 Marathons within a 90 day time frame. (She is already at this level from a previous year.)

BRONZE LEVEL
1. 2 Marathons within a 16 day time frame.
2. 3 Marathons within a 90 day time frame.

Liz with her mom, 2009 Ogden Marathon.
So here is the schedule so far. Liz starts off running with me in the Ogden Marathon May 21. Then she flies in to Seattle, Washington for the Rock & Roll Marathon on June 25. After that she finishes by running over the Golden Gate Bridge in The San Francisco Marathon on July 31. If she signs up for 3 more marathons in the next 3 consecutive months she could move to Silver and 2 Stars. Wow.
And what about what you need to do during the race to qualify for this marathon crazy group, well here is the criteria:

To be a Marathon Maniac times are not an issue, just that you finish your races. Also that you are having fun! After all, isn't that why we do this?

I think this is amazing. I won't go as far as to say no way for me. I never know what crazy thing I'll try next. But so far I am pretty booked up with Half Marathon's to be an MM this year.
