The swim went well. Wore my Garmin for time and heart rate. The heart rate didn't record so I must have done something wrong. Back to the manual. yeah. Swam 48 laps, 1200 yards. Used my new frog shaped white board to keep track of laps. Cardboard edges got wet.... guess we'll see how long it lasts. Didn't think of that when I got it in the Target dollar section.

Back to Swimming - Ice Breaker Triathlon Coming Up
Today's cross-training, which I've been skipping the past few weeks if you noticed because of excuse-ittis, was swimming. Went to Lifetime Fitness a little before 5am for my workout. Only one other person in pool area when I started swimming, and she was in the warm pool. Actually the lap pool was a nice temperature this morning. I wore my new swim shorts I bought at Power-Tri the other day, hopefully these will not become see-through like the ones I just retired.

Lookout Ice Breaker Triathlon - this time I'm competing as an individual not a relay!

Up at 4am

Today Jan couldn't sleep and him getting up seems to wake me up. So I decided to get a little unpacking from our trip done and then dress for my morning swim. BTW while getting dressed I noticed that my swim shorts were like disintegrating - many places where skin shows through! What's up with that??? One pair is worse than the other. Maybe I'm so fast in the pool it just wears them out. That must be it.
Another storm has descended on Utah and we have snow and rain. The Desert Sharks focus on swimming is coming to a close this week so I wanted to get a few more laps in to make sure I'm set for the drawing. Only one winner. Maybe me. It could happen. Today I did 1000 yards, time of 30:24.

December 9th - Sad & Happy Feelings
Today my mom would have been 82. I sure miss sharing my daily challenges and triumphs with her. I wonder what she would have thought of all my new athletic goals. And Marley, my first grandson, is 4 today. I keep a favorite baby picture of him at my desk at work - he still has those cute baby chubby cheeks.
In the pool by 5:05am. Early morning to get my laps in before the master swim class arrives. The water is kinda cool, but once I get some blood flowing I warm up. Another goal achieved today, I have my 2000+ yards I need to be on track for the Desert Shark's swim competition this month. I am 400 yards ahead of planned 2000 a week because I will be gone during Christmas for a few days. Lap storage.
Swim today was 1200 yards. Time 37:06.

Swim chick - chlorine is my perfume
Swim days....get to the pool a little earlier. Today I got bumped to another lane for the master swimmers class, Saturday it was the water aerobics class, luckily in both cases there was another lane free or one to share. Note: Program brain to wake up earlier on swim days or set alarm.
The swim today was 1200 yards, about 36 minutes.

Sweets not so sweet
Week one of training comes to a close. Slept in a little this morning but still wasn't light when I decided it was time to run so off to the gym. It didn't take too long on the treadmill before I was taking a little inventory on how I was doing. How are legs doing, fine. How is breathing doing, fine. How is stomach doing, not fine. I guess the power food I ate yesterday wasn't quite what I needed to fuel a workout. Those delicious cupcakes made by my niece Maddie and some chocolate trifle made by me were now taking a sugar revenge on my tummy. This is the first time I've had to fight my stomach to get my miles in. I sipped on some water and just kept going. I wanted to quit running, but instead decided to teach myself a lesson. Having a day off in the training schedule to s t r e t c h does not mean your stomach. I'm going to remember this.
Off the treadmill, with my bright red sweaty face, my 3 miles completed, a time of 36:45 - I headed to the dressing room bench and my recovery drink. Amazingly, my body was glad to have the drink and actually began to feel better. Good enough to do the little extra I had planned, the 1000 yard swim. The water was cool and relaxing and I made the swim in 34:30. I was pleased to make my 2000 yds this week for the USAT National Challenge, it puts me on track for the monthly shark goal of 8000 yds.
Time to get out the nutrition information I purchased from Debbie Perry and get on the success track as far as diet goes. I thought I could totally slip in a day of indulgence and get away with it. How wrong I was.

Early Swim
This morning was cross-training so I choose to swim. Logged 1000 yds. That is .57 of a mile. Time 32:25. Nothing earth shattering to report. Threw on some swim shorts and top, grabbed some clothes, my gym bag and a sweatshirt and off to Lifetime Fitness. At 5am the lap pool was not crowded. One other crazy girl, and she finished a few minutes after I arrived. I do know the rule of not swimming alone, but hope that doesn't apply if I can stand up anywhere in the pool.

Day Two - Warm up for USAT National Challenge
Up early this morning, 4:20am to get dressed and head to the gym to swim. It is a cross-training day in my marathon schedule. Swim lasted 22:50 minutes and I swam 700 yards.
My triathlon club, Desert Sharks, is competing in the USAT National Challenge for the winter. This competition is to keep athletes motivated and active during the off season. The Challenge begins tomorrow, December 1 with swimming being the focus for December. January the focus is cycling mileage, and February running mileage. Each participating club in the USAT has its members record distances and we compete against each other.
Within our club we also have a competition to swim 8,000 yards in the month of December if we want to be entered in a special drawing. I don't know if I will make that goal or not with all the running I will be doing, but I can help the club with what I do swim each week.
Good thing 95% of my Christmas shopping is done and wrapped. House decorated. I'm going to be a busy grandma.
