Kayaking on Lake Tahoe

Arriving at the beach, always a fun time.
Nancy has huckum chicken.
I love Shelties.
Camp activity we chose for today was water sports. In  all the years we’ve been coming, it hasn’t been high on our priority list because generally, Shelties are not water dogs. They do not like to get wet. But all of our dogs over the years are getting better and better with the water.

So we put on our swim suits and our sunscreen and headed out to the lake with our dogs. It was a beautiful day. Sunny, and as the morning progressed it was warm. Water sports is always in the morning when the lake is smooth and calm. We were very excited because today we were going to kayak and hope the dogs didn’t notice we are in the water.
When we got down to the beach, if you wanted to get in line to kayak you put a lifejacket on so that Sandy and Ellen knew you were waiting to have a turn. So Nancy, Jan and I each put one on. While we were waiting Nancy got our huckem chicken to play fetch with the dogs. Well this starts all the Shelties to barking - something they are very good at. One throw Nancy made into the water and Chip was so excited that he forgot it landed in the water and he jumped right it. Boy was he surprised!
First up to kayak was Nancy and I. We decided to go together, she with Aiden and me with Tinkerbell. Jan took some really fun photos of us. Both the dogs liked it and did very well.
After the kayak ride it was time for a short swim lesson with Sandy. Aiden likes the water a lot more than Tink, and Aiden is actually a better swimmer too. It is always fun for us to see them swim. I hope that Tinkerbell doesn’t mind too much. She did get a little better and not chop the water so bad. It was fun when Sandy let go of Tink and Aiden at the same time and they were swimming together.

Soon Jan was out in the kayak with Chip and Glitter. They both seemed to be having a good time too. After he got more comfortable with the feel of the boat he eventually stood and struck quite a regal pose on the kayak. Jan took the dogs around a little and then paddled back in.
Then my friend Cindy and Ziva took a turn. Ziva is only 3 months old and is having a blast at camp. Cindy was a little worried about tipping over but she did fine. The pictures of Ziva are precious. What a cute Sheltie pup.
Aiden, Tinkerbell, Glitter and Chip.
After boating was photo time! Yes, we wanted to line up the Shelties yet again and get more pictures. You never know when your picture might end up on a calendar. And by the way, our dogs will be on a 2012 calendar next year! Can’t wait to see it. It is a picture of all our dogs lined up in Zephyr Cove on rocks. Gorgeous picture.
Water fun with Tinkerbell.
After photos is more Sheltie bark and play. And bark, and bark and bark. They are so good at that.
