Thanksgiving Point Half Marathon

Liz, Marsha & Cyndie smiling with finisher medals.
Ready, set, GO!
Bib 648. Hopes were high for a beautiful sunny morning for the TP Half.  We wake up to snow on the ground. Yeah 32 degrees. Cyndie and I met at Peterson's at 5:45 to carpool. Upon arriving we met up with Liz. Bathroom stop and then we walked to the starting line. It started to lightly snow. The race got off to a late start about 7:15am.
Cyndie setting the pace.
The race began at TP Electric Park. Then up the road and it entered TP Water Tower Plaza. From there we ran back to road and headed to TP Gardens. The course was very well marked and it made it very easy to follow even for those of us running at the back of the pack.
This is how it was supposed to look. Sunny, open tulips.
Liz & Me.
The gardens were still beautiful. The closed flowers with a dusting of snow, the trees, the beautiful streams and ponds, the waterfalls.... all very peaceful. It didn't take long for the snow to stop and the sun to peak out every once in a while. After a run through the gardens we ran on to the Golf Club at TP. All I can say is Johnny Miller likes hills in his golf courses. They would have been fun in a golf cart! The GU, the volunteers, the restrooms, the aide stations were all top notch.
Me & Cyndie.
After our run by the fairways and greens the course took us back out to TP Electric Park and the finish line. For my last mile I ran it in for my fastest mile of the race 10:26. I finished 8th out of 12 in my age group 55-59 with a time of 2:49:23.7- 12:56/M pace. Right behind me was Cyndie at 2:50:09.8 and Liz at 2:55:37.5. Find all race results here.
After the race we talked with Scott Hardy, race director for the Timpanogos Half Marathon. He is a Marathon Maniac like Liz. He is designing the finisher medal for the race. He assured us it is nice so enter soon if you like a pretty canyon run and flashy bling!
Finish line.
So what does a "marathoner" do after a half marathon??? She goes home and runs 7 more miles for a Saturday total of 20 miles. Longest training run now finished, this week 10 next week 6 then 26.2!
